Given our club is filled with a variety of content, including creative works, etc. Whether you’re looking for art, stories, or just a friendly chat, you’ll find it here in and outside of the ‘safe zones’!06. What is pet (pup) play and/or fur culture?
Pet play, including pup play, and fur culture are vibrant and diverse communities that celebrate creativity, self-expression, and imagination. Pet Play (Pup Play): Is an escapism or role-playing where individuals take on the “persona” of a pet, such as a puppy, and engage in activities and behaviours associated with that animal or their creative-take on their “persona”. It can be a form of escapism, a way to explore identity, or simply a playful, fun activity that nurtures the mind. Pup play often includes elements like wearing gear (such as collars, hoods – not masks, and tails) engaging in activities like training, playing fetch, or interacting with others in a similar role or fashion. Taking part in events in hood may be a way for say an anxious-out-of-hood pup to be more outgoing and work on themselves in a protective way. Fur Culture: Is centred around an interest in anthropomorphic animals—creatures with human-like qualities. Often “furries,” tend to create and adopt “fursonas,”, akin to the pup “personas” which are personal anthropomorphic animal characters. These characters can be expressed through artwork, writing, costumes (fursuits), and other forms of media. Fur culture celebrates creativity and individuality, with many events and conventions where furries can meet, share their interests, and enjoy the community. As you can likely tell Pup and Fur cultures overlap in many ways because of the “fur/persona” and creative approaches available to those taking part. Both communities are diverse and inclusive, welcoming people of all backgrounds and identities. They provide a supportive environment for exploring and expressing different facets of personality and creativity allowing you escapism through a shift in mindset!07. Does it cost to be part of the Playpen Club?
Taking part in Playpen or becoming a member is entirely free, we’re open to donations from allies or members but it isn’t obligatory – we do ask that if you’re taking part with an in-person event you consider at least contributing to the establishments we use; such as buying snacks or drinks at the venues, or giving them genuine reviews, etc so we can at least support the locations and organisations that support us in return.
